May is nearly over, and it’s the time of the month where I reccomend some of the best songs new and old you can place into your pantomime scripts to make this year’s show extra special.
The Love Duet
Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur
This song hit the headlines for being very similar to Man Who Can’t Be Moved by The Script. But I reckon it’s the perfect love duet for panto. Romantic, guitar-based, a beautiful and simple meoldy. What more could you want? Give it to Jack and Jill or Aladdin and Jasmine alike.
Cheap Thrills – Sia
This is great for a dame who might struggle a bit with rhythm because it has a really strong beat and is very much speak-singing for a lot of the song (or at least it could be). It’s also the perfect song to include in Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, anywhere that the dame is tight of cash!
Best Friends Number
With a Little Help from My Friends
There’s a few options for the ‘best friend’ number. It crops up in a lot of pantomime scripts with various characters; Buttons in Cinderella, Muddles in Snow White, Tinkerbell in Peter Pan, the list goes on. Whoever your friendship is, you don’t get much better than this Beatles classic!
Thriller/Heads Will Roll
Here’s a fresh take on the classic Michael Jackson hit. It’s the perfect number for Sleeping Beauty‘s female baddie Carabosse, Rapunzel‘s Fairy Dreadlock, even Dick Whittington with King or Queen Rat.
